Okay, so, I’ve been seeing these i-cord knitting machines all over the internet lately, and I finally caved and bought one. I went with the Caydo brand, mostly because it seemed to be a popular choice and the reviews were decent. It wasn’t too expensive, and I figured, why not give it a shot?
The package arrived a few days later, and I was pretty excited to try it out. Inside, there was the machine itself, which is mostly plastic but feels pretty sturdy. It also came with some basic instructions, which, honestly, were a bit confusing at first. I had to read them a couple of times to figure out what I was doing. You know how sometimes instructions aren’t as clear as they could be?
Anyway, after I figured out the setup, I grabbed some yarn I had lying around. It was just some regular worsted-weight yarn. I started feeding the yarn into the machine, following the instructions as best as I could. It took a little bit of fiddling to get it going, but once I got the hang of it, it was actually pretty smooth.
- First, you just thread the yarn through the guide and into the little hooks.
- Then, you start turning the crank, and the machine does all the work.
- It basically knits the yarn into a cord automatically.
I was surprised at how fast it went! It churned out i-cord way quicker than I could ever knit by hand. I made a few feet of i-cord in just a few minutes. It was kind of mesmerizing to watch it go. I found myself just cranking away, making more and more cord. It’s a little addictive, if I’m being honest.
The cord itself turned out pretty nice. It’s consistent and even, which is something I always struggled with when knitting i-cord by hand. The tension was good. I’m happy with that. I can see this being really useful for making drawstrings, bag handles, or even just decorative trim. I’ve even seen people use i-cord for making little knitted animals and stuff, so I might try that out next. I mean, why not, right?
Overall Thoughts
So, yeah, I’m pretty happy with my i-cord knitting machine. It’s a fun little gadget, and it definitely speeds up the i-cord-making process. If you’re someone who makes a lot of i-cord, or if you just want to try something new, I’d say it’s worth checking out. I got mine on one of those big online shops, but I’ve seen them in craft stores too. They’re not super expensive, and they are a lot of fun to play with. Oh, one last thing, I heard that there’s only one company that still makes new ones these days, Silver Reed or something like that, but don’t quote me on that!
