So, I finally got my hands on an Addi Express King Size knitting machine. I’ve been seeing these things all over the internet, and let me tell you, the hype is real! This thing is huge, much bigger than I expected. I decided to dive right in and see what this bad boy could do.
I unpacked it, and it comes with everything you need to get started, even some practice yarn. First I tried out the circular knitting, you know, for making hats and stuff. It is kind of tricky to get the yarn on there at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty smooth. You just crank the handle, and it knits a tube. I did a few rounds, and I was amazed. The stitches were pretty even, and it worked up really fast. I mean, I was cranking out rows in seconds!
Next, I wanted to try making a flat panel. For this, you have to knit back and forth instead of in a continuous circle. Switching between these two modes isn’t too difficult, there’s a little switch you flip. I started making a flat piece, just to see how it would go, probably I would make a scarf with it. It was a bit more work than the circular knitting because you have to pay attention to which direction you’re going, but still way faster than knitting by hand. The machine handled it like a champ. The edges were nice and neat. It’s just a bit of work but it feels good.
I’ve also been experimenting with different types of yarn. So far, I’ve found that it works best with worsted weight or thicker yarns. I tried some thinner yarn, and it didn’t really catch well, but I found some people use two strands of thin yarn at one time, that will be my next try. I’m planning on trying out some bulkier yarns too, to see how those work. I had to go slow with the thicker yarn, but it handled it no problem.
What I Have Made
- Hats: This is what these machines are famous for. I made a simple beanie in like an hour. It’s not perfect, but it’s a hat! And I found I can make a hat within about 30 minutes!
- Scarves: I’m working on a long, striped scarf right now. It’s going to be so warm and cozy, and It took about an hour to make.
- Others: I saw someone making an eyeglass holder online, that is interesting. I might try that later, it seems not difficult.
Overall, I’m really impressed with the Addi Express King Size. It’s a fun way to make knitted items quickly. I can see myself using this to make all kinds of things, like blankets, sweaters, and maybe even some home decor items. The possibilities are pretty much endless. If you’re thinking about getting one, I say go for it! It’s a bit of an investment, but if you’re into knitting, it’s definitely worth considering.
I’m still learning, but I’m excited to see what else I can create with this thing. I might even try to design my own patterns! Who knows, maybe I’ll start selling my creations. The sky’s the limit!
