So, I got this wild idea the other day to try something totally new. I ended up with a knitting machine from Hobby Lobby. Yeah, you heard that right, me and a knitting machine, who would’ve thought?
I walked into Hobby Lobby, not really knowing what I was looking for, just browsing, you know? And then, bam! There it was, this knitting machine, just sitting there, looking all fancy and complicated. I stood there for a good five minutes, just staring at it. I mean, I’ve barely knitted a wonky scarf in my life, but something about this machine just called out to me.
I picked it up, checked the price, and thought, “Why not?” It wasn’t super expensive, and I figured it could be a fun little project. So, I bought it, along with some yarn, and headed home, feeling a mix of excitement and “what have I done?”
Getting it set up was a whole other story. The instructions were, let’s just say, not very beginner-friendly. I spent a good hour just trying to figure out how to thread the darn thing. There were a lot of YouTube videos involved, and maybe a few frustrated sighs. But, I finally got it. I threaded the yarn, cranked the handle, and watched in amazement as the machine started to knit. It was like magic, except I did the set up.
My first project? A scarf, of course. It’s the classic beginner project, right? It was a bit uneven at first. Okay, maybe more than a bit. But I kept going, row after row, and slowly but surely, it started to look like an actual scarf. I even got fancy and added some stripes.
- Started with a simple scarf project.
- Learned to add different colors for stripes.
- Realized the machine can do more than just scarves.
After the scarf, I moved on to beanies, which are surprisingly easy to make on this thing. Then I got a little more ambitious and tried making a small blanket. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I made it. And that’s a pretty cool feeling.
What I learned
This knitting machine has opened up a whole new world of crafting for me. I can whip up scarves and beanies in no time, and I’m even thinking about trying some more complex patterns. It’s not just about the finished product, though. It’s about the process. It’s relaxing, it’s creative, and it’s a great way to unwind after a long day. I never thought I’d be a knitting machine person, but here I am, and I’m loving it. Also, it reminds me of that time when I was creating a vision board in Long Beach.
If you are thinking about whether you should start knitting or not, let me tell you, do it!
Whether you are crafting scarves, beanies, or even small blankets, you will get a lot of fun from it. Just like whether you’re quilting in your Indianapolis, IN home, gardening indoors in your Seattle, WA apartment.
So, if you’re looking for a new hobby, or just want to try something different, I highly recommend giving a knitting machine a try. You might surprise yourself with what you can create. Plus, it’s just plain fun.
