Okay, so, I’ve been seeing these addi knitting machines all over the internet, and I finally decided to get one. I’m not gonna lie, I was a little intimidated at first, but I figured, why not? Let’s give it a shot!
First things first, I unboxed the thing. It came with the machine itself, obviously, some clamps to secure it to a table, and a few other bits and pieces. I spent a good chunk of time just familiarizing myself with all the parts, trying to figure out what goes where. It’s definitely not your grandma’s knitting needles, that’s for sure.
Then came the fun part – setting it up! I clamped it down to my craft table, which was a bit of a struggle, but we got there. I watched a couple of videos online to get the hang of the basic setup. Trust me, those videos were lifesavers.
Next, I had to choose some yarn. I went with a simple, worsted-weight yarn to start with. Nothing too fancy, just wanted to get the hang of the machine before I went wild with the yarn stash. Casting on was… interesting. It’s a whole different process than regular knitting. You’re basically wrapping the yarn around these little hooks, and it took me a few tries to get the tension right. But hey, practice makes perfect, right?
Once I had the yarn on, it was time to crank! Turning the handle and watching the machine do its thing was actually pretty mesmerizing. It’s so much faster than knitting by hand. I made a few mistakes along the way, dropped some stitches, had to unravel a bit, but eventually, I started to get the rhythm down.

Attempt 1: I tried to make a simple tube scarf. It ended up being more of a wonky, uneven mess, but I was still proud of it! It was my first creation on the machine, after all.
-
Attempt 2: I decided to try a hat. This one went a bit smoother. I learned from my scarf mistakes and managed to create a somewhat respectable-looking beanie. It was a little too big, but hey, I’ll just call it “slouchy” style.

Attempt 3: After these practice, I feel I can move forward and try more projects. Maybe a sweater? We will see.
My First Project
After a few more practice runs, I’m starting to get the hang of this thing. It’s definitely a learning curve, but it’s also a lot of fun. I can see myself making all sorts of things with this machine – scarves, hats, maybe even some blankets eventually. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start selling my creations someday!
So, if you’re thinking about getting an addi knitting machine, I say go for it! Just be prepared to put in some practice time, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. It’s all part of the learning process. And who knows, you might just discover a new passion like I did!
