This here sweater, I tell ya, it ain’t made by hand no more. Nope, nowadays, they got these contraptions, these sweater machine knitting things. Back in my day, we used to knit everything with our own two hands. Now it’s all done by machines, clickety-clack, just like that.
Knitting Sweater by Machine, Easy Peasy
I seen them machines, big ol’ things. They say it’s easy, this sweater machine knitting. Easier than using them knitting needles, that’s for sure. My fingers, they used to get so sore. Now the machine does the job in no time.
They say you can make a whole sweater in a couple of hours. Can you believe that? Two hours! It used to take me weeks, sometimes a whole month, to knit a sweater for my husband. But with the machine, you can finish it quickly.
All the Yarns and Stuff
They got all kinds of yarn for these machines, I reckon. Thick yarn, thin yarn, all the colors you can think of. They call it “chunky” yarn, “standard” yarn… I don’t know all the fancy names. But it looks like good stuff, all soft and colorful.
They say the chunky yarn is easier. Big needles, big stitches, easy to see what you’re doing. That’s good for folks just starting out. Standard yarn, that’s your regular stuff. Good for most things.
- Chunky yarn – easy, big stitches
- Standard yarn – regular, for most stuff
You gotta choose the right yarn for your sweater, I guess. Depends on what you want, how warm you want it to be.
Machine Does All the Work
These sweater machine knitting contraptions, they got all these buttons and levers. I don’t know how they work, but they do. They just go back and forth, back and forth, and the yarn turns into a sweater. It’s like magic, I tell ya.
They say you gotta measure, though. Even with a machine, you gotta make sure the sweater fits. You don’t want no sleeves too short or a belly too tight. You gotta measure the person you’re making it for.
They got these things called “gauges”. Don’t ask me what they are, but they’re important for sweater machine knitting, I hear. Something about how tight the stitches are.
Fast and Easy Sweaters
I guess these machines are good for making lots of sweaters. They can make them in bulk. You know, for selling or just for a big family. If you need lots of sweaters, a machine is probably the way to go.
These knitting machines, they are fast. Real fast. Faster than a rabbit running from a fox. I remember my grandma used to knit, her fingers moving like lightning. But these machines, they are even faster.
Flat or Round, It Don’t Matter
They got different kinds of these sweater machine knitting things. Some are flat, like a table. Some are round, like a big tube. I don’t know which one is better. They both make sweaters, that’s all I know.
They say the round ones, they make sweaters real fast. You know, the kind you just sew up the sides. That is good if you are in a hurry. The flat ones, they probably more work. I do not know. I never used one of these things.
The flat ones, they say they make sweaters like the ones you knit by hand, only faster. I guess that’s good if you want it to look a certain way.
Still Gotta Know Some Things
Even with a machine, you still gotta know a little something about knitting, I reckon. You gotta know how to put the yarn in, how to start it, how to stop it. It ain’t just pressing a button, I don’t think.
You gotta know how to fix it if it gets messed up, too. I bet these machines get jammed sometimes. Then what do you do? You gotta know how to untangle the yarn, how to get it going again.
You gotta do your own learnin’, though. Read the books, watch them videos. Figure out how it all works. It is not that hard, I bet. Just gotta put your mind to it.
These sweater machine knitting things, they’re something else. They make knitting a whole lot easier, that’s for sure. Maybe I’ll get me one of these machines someday. Then I can make sweaters for all my grandkids. I would not have to spend all day and all night knitting anymore.
They sure are amazing, these newfangled things. You can do knitting faster than you can say “Jack Robinson”. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got some chores to do.
