Okay, so, I’ve been seeing these Sentro knitting machines all over the internet, and I finally caved and bought one. I got the 48-needle one, ’cause why not go big, right? It was about 50 bucks, which isn’t too bad. I heard it’s pretty easy to use, even for beginners, so I thought, “Let’s give it a shot!”
When the box arrived, I ripped it open like a kid on Christmas morning. Inside was the machine itself, some yarn, a crochet hook, and a tension guide thingy. First thing I did was try to understand this whole contraption. There’s the main part where all the needles are, a handle you turn, and a yarn guide to, well, guide the yarn.
The instructions suggested using a medium-weight yarn, so I grabbed some worsted weight yarn I had lying around. I found some instructions online that said to turn the handle until a white hook thingy goes up. Then, you leave a tail of yarn, hook it on that white hook, and start turning the handle clockwise. Easy enough, right?
- Getting Started:
- Turn the handle until the white hook is up.
- Leave a 6-inch yarn tail.
- Hook yarn onto the white hook.
- Turn the handle clockwise.
So I did that, and the yarn started feeding into the machine. I kept turning the handle, watching the needles go up and down, and before I knew it, I was actually knitting! It was kinda mesmerizing, to be honest. I just kept going, and a tube of knitted fabric started to form.
I followed the instructions about casting on and off the machine, which was a bit tricky at first, but I got the hang of it. After some trial and error, and a few dropped stitches, I managed to make a pretty decent-looking beanie! It was a bit wonky in places, but hey, it was my first try.
I’ve also tried making some flat panels. It’s a bit different than making tubes, but once you figure out how to move the yarn back and forth, it’s pretty straightforward. I’m thinking of trying to make a scarf next, or maybe even some socks. There are some instructions you can get and many people use this machine to make all sorts of things, like gloves, sweaters, and even blankets! Although, I’m not sure how you’d make a blanket on this thing, it seems a bit small for that. Maybe you’d have to sew a bunch of panels together or something.
Honestly, I’m pretty impressed with this little machine. It’s definitely a fun and easy way to make knitted stuff without having to learn how to knit by hand. Plus, it’s way faster! I can see myself using this thing a lot, especially for making gifts and stuff.
If you’re thinking about getting one of these Sentro knitting machines, I’d say go for it! Just be prepared for a bit of a learning curve, and don’t expect to be a pro right away. But once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty addictive. I’m already planning my next project!
I actually saw somewhere that there’s a bigger version and a smaller version, Sentro 48 is the biggest one. Maybe you’ll want a smaller one. I mean, there is also a chunky one with bigger needles, so it’s even easier to learn, or so I heard. But it’s up to you which one you choose. I decided to go for the standard 48 one and now I can make large hats. It’s pretty awesome!
