Okay, so, I bought a knitting machine the other day, and let me tell you, it’s been a ride! I’ve always wanted to try one of these things, and I finally took the plunge. I got myself the LK150 by Silver Viscount – it’s supposed to be good for beginners, so fingers crossed.
The first thing I did was unpack the whole thing. It came with a bunch of parts, and I spent a good hour just figuring out what everything was. Then I started setting it up, which was kind of like putting together a complicated puzzle, not going to lie. I followed the manual, but it still took me a while to get it all assembled.
Once it was all set up, I picked out some yarn. I went with a nice, thick yarn because I heard it’s easier to work with on these machines. I found the yarn, carefully read the instructions, and started threading it through the machine. This part was actually kind of tricky. I had to make sure the yarn went through all the right places, or else it wouldn’t work properly.
My First Project: A Scarf
For my first project, I decided to keep it simple and make a scarf. I mean, who doesn’t love a good scarf, right? I followed the instructions for casting on, which is basically getting the yarn onto the needles. It took a few tries, but I eventually got it.
- I started moving the carriage back and forth.
- I watched as the machine started knitting the yarn into fabric. It was pretty cool to see it in action.
- I kept going until the scarf was as long as I wanted it to be.
Then came the tricky part – casting off. This is how you get the finished piece off the machine. I carefully followed the steps, and with a little bit of wiggling, the scarf came off the needles. There it was! My very first knitted piece from the machine! Sure, it was a bit wonky in places, and the tension was a little uneven, but I made it! I was so stoked!
I’ve still got a lot to learn, but so far, I’m loving this knitting machine. It’s definitely a learning curve, but it’s so satisfying to see something you’ve made come to life. I’m already thinking about my next project. Maybe a hat? Or perhaps some socks? The possibilities are endless!
