Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with these computerized sock knitting machines lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I got this idea in my head that I was gonna start churning out socks like a madman, maybe even start a little side hustle, who knows, right?
So, I started by scouring the internet for info. Found out about this model, the “FURONG-6F,” that supposedly can do all kinds of socks – men’s, women’s, even those funky sports socks. It says it can handle a bunch of colors, like, 16 per sock! Plus, it works with regular power outlets, 380V or 220V, so I figured that wouldn’t be a problem.
Then I started looking into which machine to actually buy. There’s this one called “Sentro” that a lot of people say is good for newbies. Simple to use, good for quick projects, and makes decent boot socks. Seemed like a good starting point, but I wanted to keep my options open.
Finding the Right Machine
- Started with online research: Looked up different sock knitting machine models.
- Found the FURONG-6F: Seemed versatile with color options and power compatibility.
- Considered the Sentro: Heard it was beginner-friendly and good for quick projects.
I dug a little deeper and found this other brand, “addi”. People online were saying it’s like the gold standard, but here’s the kicker – a used one that can handle thin, sock-weight yarn is gonna set you back at least a grand! And some of the addi models are better for hats or sweaters, not necessarily socks. Sheesh, talk about a budget buster.
I did find some patterns though, like these “Ultra Easy Socks”. They’re made in a circle, from the top down, and the heel is made by doing some kind of decrease and increase thing. Seems like maybe I could figure it out, even though I don’t really know what I’m doing yet.
But man, how long does it take? I see people saying baby socks take a couple of evenings, which sounds okay. But then regular socks can take, like, two weeks to a month! How can people stand to knit for that long? Some people seem to be crazy fast, like they’re falling in love with the project and can’t stop. I doubt I’ll be that quick, but it would be nice to get faster eventually.
I ended up getting a used Sentro machine, just to see if I could even get the hang of this whole thing. It wasn’t too expensive, and I figured if I messed it up, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. Plus, I could always upgrade later if I got really into it. Or maybe I could even look for a cheap used machine. I am really looking forward to trying these Ultra Easy Socks.
Taking the Plunge
- Discovered addi: Top-of-the-line but super expensive, especially for sock yarn models.
- Found “Ultra Easy Socks” pattern: Seemed doable for a beginner.
- Learned about knitting times: Baby socks are quick, adult socks can take weeks.
- Bought a used Sentro: Decided to start small and see if I enjoyed it.
So yeah, that’s where I’m at now. I’ve got this machine, I’ve got some yarn, and I’ve got a whole lot of questions. I’ll keep you guys posted on how it goes. Wish me luck!
