Okay, so today I’m gonna talk about this thing I messed around with – the addi Express knitting machine. I saw some videos about it and thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
First off, I went online and watched a bunch of videos. People were making all sorts of stuff with it, like hats and scarves. It looked pretty straightforward, you know? Just put the yarn in and turn the crank. Easy peasy, right?
So, I got myself one of these machines. I decided to start with the smaller one, the addi Express, not the King-size. I figured I’d try the smaller one first before going big. When it arrived, I unboxed it and, I gotta say, it felt pretty solid. Not like those cheapo plastic ones, this one seemed like it could take a beating.
- I grabbed some yarn I had lying around – nothing fancy, just some regular worsted weight stuff.
- Then, I followed the instructions that came with the machine. Threading the yarn was a bit fiddly at first, but I got the hang of it after a couple of tries.
- Once the yarn was in, I started turning the crank. And guess what? It actually worked! The machine started knitting a tube. It was kinda slow going, but hey, it was working!
I spent a good few hours just cranking away, making a long tube. I wasn’t really sure what I was making, maybe a really long scarf or something. It was actually pretty relaxing, just turning the crank and watching the tube grow. I found it a bit noisy but not too bad.
After a while, I decided to try something a bit more challenging. The videos I watched showed people making hats by doing some back-and-forth thing with the needles. I tried that, and let me tell you, it wasn’t as easy as it looked. I messed up a few times, dropped stitches, and had to start over. But I eventually figured it out.
The result
I ended up with a wonky-looking hat. It wasn’t perfect, but I made it! And that felt pretty good. I showed it to my wife, and she just laughed, but hey, she’s not the crafty one. I then tried the King-size, and it’s better for handling heavier yarn weights. It’s sturdy and always comes out on top compared to the others I’ve tried.
So, yeah, that’s my experience with the addi Express knitting machine. It’s a fun little gadget. It takes some practice, but once you get the hang of it, you can make some cool stuff. I’m definitely gonna keep using it, maybe try making some socks next time. This thing is perfect for winding chunky socks from the cuff to the toe! I’ll keep messing around with it and see what else I can come up with. It’s a nice way to kill some time and make something with your hands, you know?
