Okay, so I saw this thing online – the addi Express Knitting Machine. Looked pretty cool, so I decided to give it a try. I mean, who wouldn’t want to knit stuff super fast, right?
Getting Started
First, I ordered one. It arrived a few days later, and let me tell you, the box was HUGE! I ripped it open, probably not too elegantly, and started checking out all the parts. There’s this big circular thing with all these needles, a handle to crank, and a bunch of other little bits and pieces. It looked a bit intimidating at first, I’m not gonna lie.
Figuring It Out
Next, I tried following the instructions. They were okay, I guess, but not super clear. You know, the usual. So, naturally, I ended up on the internet, looking for help. Found some videos, watched them a few times, and felt a little more confident. It’s all about getting the yarn threaded right and figuring out the tension, it seemed.
My First Attempt
I grabbed some yarn I had lying around – just some cheap stuff to practice with – and started cranking. It was… weird. The yarn kept getting caught, and I had to stop and fix it like a million times. Definitely not as smooth as it looked in the videos. But, hey, I wasn’t giving up that easily.
Getting the Hang of It
- I spent the next few days just practicing.
- Cranking, fixing dropped stitches, and starting over.
- Cranking some more, more dropped stitches, more starting over.
- And crank, fix, start over, repeat.
Slowly but surely, I started to get a feel for it. Figured out that you gotta keep a steady pace, not too fast, not too slow. Also figured out that the type of yarn makes a big difference. Thicker yarns seemed to work better than the thinner ones, at least for me.
Finally, Something!
After a whole bunch of trial and error, I finally managed to knit a whole tube! It wasn’t perfect, a little wonky in places, but it was a tube! I was pretty pumped, I have to admit. It felt like a real accomplishment. I immediately cast off with shaking hands, probably still making mistakes.
What’s Next?
Now that I can make tubes, I’m thinking about trying to make a hat. Or maybe a scarf. We’ll see. This addi machine definitely has a learning curve, but it’s pretty fun once you start to get the hang of it. I have been watching more videos, trying to learn new techniques and stuff. It’s a whole new world of yarn crafts! I’m excited to see what I can create next. I might even try to make some socks, who knows?
Anyway, that’s my experience with the addi Express Knitting Machine so far. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, but I’m glad I stuck with it. If you’re thinking about trying one, be prepared to be patient, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes – you’ll learn a lot that way! Just keep cranking!
