Okay, so, I got this thing called an Addi Egg knitting machine. It’s a small, hand-cranked thing, and I thought it would be a fun little project to try out. I was thinking about making some simple stuff, like hats or scarves.
First, I had to figure out how to set this thing up. It came with some instructions, but honestly, they weren’t the greatest. It took a bit of fiddling around, but eventually, I got the yarn threaded through all the little hooks and needles. It’s a bit of a process, but once you get the hang of it, it’s not too bad.
- Get the yarn: I picked out some colorful yarn that I thought would look nice.
- Set up the machine: Like I said, this took a bit of trial and error.
- Start cranking: This is the fun part! You just turn the handle, and the machine starts knitting.
I started by making a small tube, just to get a feel for how the machine works. It’s pretty neat to watch it go. The needles move up and down, and the yarn gets looped around them, creating the knitted fabric. It is kind of loud and clicky.
After a few rounds, I had a decent-sized tube. It’s not perfect, I messed up a few times and had to undo some rows, but it is a start. This is way faster than doing it by hand, but it’s also kind of tedious, sitting there cranking away.
Making a Hat
Once I felt comfortable with the basic operation, I decided to try making a hat. This is a little more complicated because you have to do some increasing and decreasing to get the right shape. I tried to follow a simple pattern I found somewhere, and it wasn’t hard, but it is easy to lose track of where you are and mess up. There was a bit of frogging involved, which is what knitters call it when you have to rip out your work.
But, after a couple of attempts, I finally managed to make a hat! It’s a bit wonky in places, but it’s definitely a hat. And I made it myself, well, with the help of the Addi machine.
I think these knitting machines are pretty cool for simple projects. You can whip up a hat or a scarf pretty quickly once you get the hang of it. The Addi Egg is a cute little thing, but I can see myself using it to make some gifts for friends and family.
I’m not sure I’d use it for anything too complicated, though. It’s not the same as hand knitting, and it’s definitely got its limitations. But for a quick and easy project, it’s not bad at all.
If you’re thinking about getting one of these, I’d say go for it! They are affordable and can be a fun way to get into knitting. Just be prepared for a bit of a learning curve and don’t expect to become a master knitter overnight.
I’m excited to try out some other projects with my Addi. Maybe I’ll try making a scarf next, or even some small toys. We’ll see! It is kind of fun, I have to admit. And it’s satisfying to make something with your own hands, even if you have a little help from a machine.
