Okay, so I recently got into this whole knitting thing. I’m not much for hand-knitting, you see, too slow and my hands cramp up. So I went and bought myself one of those Addi Express knitting machines. Pretty neat little contraption, but like anything else, it’s got parts that need a little looking after. Here’s how I figured it all out.
First off, I spent some time just getting to know the machine. It’s got these needles, 46 of them in the King Size model, that go up and down to make the stitches. There’s a crank you turn, and a whole bunch of other bits and bobs. I learned that most of these parts are made in Germany, which is pretty cool.
I started with the simple stuff, like the needles. They seem pretty sturdy, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to have spares. Found out you can get replacement needles pretty easily. They’re the same for both the smaller and the bigger machines, which is handy.
Then I noticed there’s this red ring thing, which is part of the mechanism. You can get replacements for that, too. Seems like pretty much any part you might need, you can find a replacement for. Even the crank handle!
One thing I did was watch a video on how to replace the needles. You just turn the whole thing upside down, and there they are. Seems simple enough, though I haven’t had to do it yet, thankfully.
- Needles: 46 in the King Size, 22 in the smaller one. Replacements are easy to find.
- Crank: You can get a new one if the old one breaks.
- Red Ring: Also replaceable.
- Other Stuff: There are all sorts of other parts, like the yarn feeder guides and something called a “sinker.” I haven’t messed with those yet.
Keeping it Running
So, basically, it seems like as long as I take care of this machine and replace parts when they wear out, it should last me a good long while. I’ve been using it to make all sorts of things – scarves, hats, even a blanket! It’s way faster than hand-knitting, that’s for sure.
I’m no expert, but I reckon this Addi machine is a good investment. And knowing I can get replacement parts makes me feel a whole lot better about using it all the time. This is just how I did with my machine recently, hope it is helpful for you guys!
