Alright, alright, let’s talk about this… thingamajig, the Addi 40 needle knitting machine. My neighbor, bless her heart, got one, and she’s been yappin’ my ear off about it. So, I figured, what the heck, let’s see what all the fuss is about.
First off, they say it’s good for beginners. Well, I ain’t no spring chicken, and needles and yarn have always given me a headache. But this machine thingy? It’s supposed to be easier, they say. We’ll see about that. They got these video tutorials, which is good, ’cause Lord knows I can’t make heads or tails of those fancy instruction booklets. Show me, don’t tell me, that’s what I always say. These videos, they show you the basics, like how to get the yarn goin’ and how to not mess it up too bad. Apparently, fixin’ mistakes is a whole other thing, but they got tips for that too, thank goodness.
Now, this 40 needle machine, it ain’t the biggest one they got. They got a 48 needle one too, but this one, they say it’s good for making kids’ stuff. Hats, scarves, little bags… you know, the kind of things you’d make for your grandkids if you had any. Or, if your grandkids weren’t all grown up and movin’ to the city, leavin’ their poor old grandma behind. But hey, I guess I could make some hats for the neighbor’s kids. They’re always runnin’ around with their noses drippin’.
- Yarn Choice is Important
One thing they keep harpin’ on about is the yarn. You can’t just use any old yarn, apparently. Gotta be the right size, not too thick, not too thin. Like Goldilocks and the porridge, I guess. Too thick, and the machine will get all jammed up, and then you’ll be sittin’ there for hours tryin’ to untangle it. And ain’t nobody got time for that. They say certain yarn won’t work in the machine, this is important if you don’t want a headache. If it’s too thick, the machine won’t be happy. It’s gonna be like trying to shove a watermelon through a keyhole, understand?
They also say you can make scarves and bags. Not just for kids, I guess. But honestly, I don’t need another scarf. I got a whole drawer full of ’em. And bags? What am I gonna do with more bags? I already got enough bags to carry all my troubles, and believe me, that’s a lot of bags. But the neighbor girl, she’s always wanting a new bag, maybe I’ll make her one. If I can figure this darn machine out, that is.
Now, they talk about makin’ flat things instead of round things. Apparently, that opens up a whole new world of possibilities. You can make clothes and stuff. But honestly, I don’t see myself makin’ clothes. I can barely sew a button on, let alone make a whole shirt. But I guess it’s good to know you can do it, if you’re one of them fancy types. And there are bunch of patterns online, but they say most folks start with hats and scarves. Makes sense I guess. Gotta walk before you run, right?
One thing I saw this lady makin’ on the machine was a bun maker. You know, for your hair. Match the yarn to your hair color, and nobody even knows it’s there. Now, that’s somethin’ I could use. My hair’s always a mess, flyin’ all over the place. Maybe I’ll give that a try. If I can find yarn that matches my gray hair, that is. That might be a challenge in itself.
So, overall, this Addi 40 needle knitting machine… it seems like it could be alright. Might be fun to play around with, once you get the hang of it. And hey, if a stubborn old woman like me can figure it out, anybody can. Just gotta watch them videos, pick the right yarn, and keep your fingers crossed. And maybe have a glass of sweet tea handy, just in case things get frustrating. ‘Cause Lord knows, they always do.
And another thing they didn’t mention, is where to buy this machine. I guess you could get it at the store or online, maybe even from that Amazon fella. But they didn’t say nothing about that, which is kind of annoying. I’m going to have to ask my neighbor, she probably knows.
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about this knitting machine. If you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to keep your hands busy, and maybe make a few hats for the neighborhood kids, it might be worth a try. Just don’t expect it to be a walk in the park. Nothin’ ever is, is it?
