Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about these here singer knitting machines. I ain’t no expert, mind you, just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two.
First off, what can you do with ’em? Shoot, just about anything your heart desires, it seems. Them young folks, they make hats, scarves, gloves, even them big ol’ blankets they call afghans. And socks, headbands, little toys for the young’uns, stuff for the house, pillows, them scrunchie things for the hair, purses, even sweaters for the doggone dog! Heck, I seen some folks make just about everything but the kitchen sink with them machines.
Now, some folks think just ’cause a machine is old, it’s worth a fortune. But that ain’t always the case. I’ve seen plenty of them old machines at the flea market, and half the time they’re missin’ parts or them little instruction books. Unless you’re one of them collector fellas, they ain’t worth a whole lot. You gotta have the whole shebang, you know? The machine, the parts, the instructions, the whole kit and caboodle.
I heard tell of a big, big sewin’ machine factory, the biggest in the whole world, they say. But even they couldn’t keep goin’. Money problems and folks not buyin’ enough stuff, that’s what done ’em in. Closed down back in 1980, I think it was. Sad, real sad. Shows you, nothin’ lasts forever, not even the big fellas.
- Where to find ’em? Well, you can try that eBay thingamajig, the one them young folks use on their computers. They say you can find good deals there, and even get free shippin’ sometimes. But I ain’t never used it myself. Too complicated for an old woman like me.
- Which one to get? Now, that’s a tough one. There’s so many different kinds, it’ll make your head spin. I heard tell there’s folks on the internet, them “experts” they call themselves, that can tell ya which one is the best. They do all sorts of tests and compare prices and all that fancy stuff. You can find them online, I guess, if you know where to look. They got websites and all that, tellin’ you which one is the best for this year or that year.
But let me tell ya somethin’ important. Don’t go buyin’ the first machine you see. Look around, ask questions, and see if you can try it out first. Make sure it’s got all the parts and that it works right. And don’t pay too much! Some folks try to rip you off, especially if they think you don’t know nothin’. Be smart, and don’t let them fool ya.
And remember, a machine is just a tool. It ain’t gonna do the work for ya. You gotta put in the time and effort to learn how to use it, and you gotta practice, practice, practice. But if you do, you can make some mighty fine things with a singer knitting machine. And who knows, maybe you’ll even make a little money on the side, sellin’ your creations at the market or to your friends and neighbors.
So there you have it. That’s all I know about singer knitting machines. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, but I hope I helped you out a little bit. Now go on, and get yourself a machine, and start knittin’!
And one more thing, they say these new machines are better than the old ones. Faster, they say. Well, maybe so. But there is something to be said for the old ones too. They’re made of metal, real solid, and they last a long time. These new ones, they are made of plastic mostly, I think. They are lighter that’s for sure, but I don’t know if they will last as long.
And don’t forget the yarn! That’s just as important as the machine. You have to get good yarn, or your stuff will look cheap. And there are so many colors and kinds of yarn! It’s enough to make your head spin. But it’s fun too, picking out just the right yarn for your project. And you can mix and match different yarns for different effects. The possibilities are endless, they say.
